"“Why vote for the Liberal party when the Liberal party won't stand up and vote for you?”
It's not often I agree with Peter Van Loan, but I think this quote should be in the mind of all progressive voters when they're getting ready to cast their votes in the next election.
Despite staking his political reputation on the environment, Liberal leader Stephane Dion ordered his party to stay away from the House tonight on a vote on a opposition motion of non-confidence in the Harper government on their inaction on reducing greenhouse gases.
Thankfully, voters concerned about the environment have another party in parliament who are willing to take action on climate change.

Talk about hitting the nail right on the head! I couldn't agree more. You could build a heck of a campaign around that quote AND the facts that bear it out!
Great post! Thanks.
Postscript:
Jason Cherniak ... can we get a comment here from you on this?!
(in a post on Cherniak's site the other day, he speculated as to whether or not voters will remember that the Libs missed so many votes in the House) .... it won't matter - the New Democrats will remind them I'm sure!
I think Libloggers are just going to pretend this little vote never happened.
Just like Liberal MPs.
Let's hope Canadian voters don't next time Dion talks about how we NEED A LIBERAL GOVERNMENT TO SAVE THE PLANET!
Mark, that is what is so amazing about your 'catch' here. Dion was the big 'green' politician in the '06 election. And which vote did they skip tonight? Hmmm ... I love it!
Dion has managed to completely ruin his reputation in the short period of 15 months.
He has to have the worst advisors EVER!
"Thankfully, voters concerned about the environment have another party in parliament who are willing to take action on climate change"
And fortunately, there's yet another party available to voters, where a vote sends a stronger message regarding environmental action.
No one can doubt there's another party that is strong on the environment, and I'll grant that a vote for them means something.
But two things:
1 - If you want environmental ACTION, they aren't a choice because they're not going be in parliament until we have a fair voting system. And parliament is where environmental action happens.
2 - You've got to question voting for an environmental party that endorses a party that had a worse record in government on the environment than George Bush.
